Flowpresso® — Solutions Functional Medicine

Flowpresso®

Relaxation, recovery, and nervous system support.

Your body is constantly responding to stress, physical demands, sleep, inflammation, and the environment around you. Flowpresso combines sequential compression, gentle heat, and deep touch pressure to create a calming, cocoon-like therapeutic experience.

What it is

Three Modalities.
One Restorative Experience.

At Solutions Functional Medicine, Flowpresso is offered as part of a personalized approach to wellness and recovery, with appropriate screening and guidance from a licensed healthcare professional.

Compression

Pneumatic compression gently inflates around the body in a sequential pattern, creating rhythmic pressure throughout the treatment.

Heat

Thermal and infrared heat provide soothing warmth. Temperature settings can be adjusted based on individual comfort and treatment considerations.

Deep Pressure

Consistent, full-body pressure creates a cocoon-like sensation that many people describe as similar to being wrapped in a warm hug.

Relaxation

Together these encourage relaxation and support the body's natural shift toward a more restful, parasympathetic state.

Who it's for

Is Flowpresso Right For You?

Flowpresso may be a supportive option for individuals looking to incorporate relaxation, recovery, and nervous system support into their overall wellness plan.

Inflammation & Lymphatic Support

Sequential compression as part of a full-body therapeutic experience that may support lymphatic movement and provide soothing compression for occasional puffiness, physical recovery, or other wellness goals.

Diagnosed lymphedema or a complex lymphatic condition may require specialized evaluation and care.

Functional Medicine & Wellness

Flowpresso can be incorporated into a broader functional medicine plan for individuals dealing with fatigue, stress, gut health concerns, hormone-related concerns, or other wellness goals.

It does not replace evaluation or treatment for an underlying medical condition.

Athletic & Physical Recovery

Physical training places demands on the body. Flowpresso provides a relaxing combination of compression, warmth, and deep pressure that can be built into a recovery routine following exercise, training, or athletic activity.

Sleep & Relaxation

Having difficulty winding down can make it challenging to transition from a busy day into a restful state.

Flowpresso creates a quiet, cocoon-like experience designed to encourage relaxation and help your body shift away from the stimulation of the day.

Stress & Nervous System Support

When life keeps your body in a constant state of alertness, finding opportunities to slow down can be important.

Rhythmic compression, warmth, and deep pressure create calming sensory input designed to support nervous system regulation.

Mental Wellness Support

Some people find deep, consistent pressure particularly calming. If you enjoy weighted blankets or other deep-pressure sensory input, you may find the cocoon-like experience especially relaxing.

A supportive wellness modality — not a replacement for mental health care when professional treatment is needed.

Permission to pause

Is your body stuck in "survival mode"?

Chronic stress, poor sleep, physical overtraining, and ongoing physical demands can leave you feeling like your body is constantly "on." Sometimes the most valuable thing you can give your body is an opportunity to stop doing.

Flowpresso is a passive, full-body experience. You simply rest while receiving rhythmic compression, gentle warmth, and deep-pressure stimulation. There is no workout. No active participation is required.

Just 40 minutes to pause, breathe, and allow your body to experience a different kind of sensory input.

Your body gets to rest.

The evidence

We Believe in Being Honest About the Evidence.

Flowpresso combines several individual modalities that have been studied and used in healthcare and therapeutic settings.

Pneumatic Compression

Widely used in medical and rehabilitation settings, with applications involving circulation, edema management, and physical recovery.

Heat Therapy

Heat therapy, including infrared heat, has been studied for applications related to circulation, relaxation, and physical recovery.

Deep Touch Pressure

Studied in relation to sensory processing, relaxation, and calming responses. Research associated with Dr. Temple Grandin and others has contributed to broader understanding of deep-pressure sensory input.

What About Flowpresso Specifically?

The combined application of sequential compression, heat, and deep pressure is a newer approach, and research examining the combination continues to develop. Patients deserve transparency about that distinction.

Flowpresso is not presented as a cure-all.

An important distinction

They Are Not the Same Thing.

Flowpresso and specialized manual lymphatic therapy serve different purposes.

Device-based

Flowpresso

Uses a device to provide full-body sequential compression, heat, and deep pressure. It may be incorporated into a broader wellness or recovery plan.

Hands-on

Manual Lymphatic Therapy

Hands-on treatment performed by appropriately trained healthcare professionals who can assess and address specific lymphatic concerns.

When Specialized Care May Be Appropriate

If you have diagnosed lymphedema, complex lipedema, significant lymphatic dysfunction, a history of lymph node removal, or another condition requiring specialized lymphatic care, your provider may recommend evaluation by an appropriately trained physical therapist or certified lymphedema therapist.

Our goal is not to replace specialized care. Our goal is to provide appropriate support while keeping your safety and individual needs at the center of your care.

Your visit

How it Works

Plan for approximately one hour. The Flowpresso therapy itself lasts about 40 minutes, with additional time for getting set up and safely exiting the device.

01

Your First Visit

Your first visit begins with an individual assessment. A licensed healthcare professional will review your health history, discuss your goals, and determine whether Flowpresso is appropriate for you.

If you are cleared for treatment, your provider will determine appropriate pressure, heat settings, and therapy mode based on your individual needs and comfort.

02

Before Your Session

For your comfort:

  • Wear long sleeves, long pants, and socks to create a barrier between your skin and the device.
  • Remove jewelry and hard accessories such as belts.
  • Arrive adequately hydrated.
  • Follow any specific preparation instructions provided by your healthcare professional.
03

During Your Session

You'll be comfortably positioned in the Flowpresso system while your provider prepares the device. Your session may include:

  • Compression — sequential or continuous pneumatic compression surrounding the body.
  • Heat — gentle warmth adjusted according to your treatment plan and comfort.
  • Deep Pressure — full-body pressure creating a cocoon-like sensation.

Your provider will stay with you at the start of your session to make sure you are comfortable as the compression and heat begin. You may be offered an eye mask and comfortable headphones with relaxing music. Then you simply rest.

What It Feels Like

Everyone experiences Flowpresso differently. The combination of compression, warmth, and deep pressure can feel like being gently cocooned or wrapped. Some people describe the experience as calming, grounding, or deeply relaxing.

The pressure is rhythmic and adjustable. Flowpresso should not be painful. If you experience pain, significant discomfort, dizziness, unusual swelling, or another concerning symptom, tell your provider immediately.

05

After Your Session

After approximately 40 minutes, your provider will carefully unwrap the device and assist you off the treatment table. You may feel relaxed, calm, or ready to continue with your day.

Stay adequately hydrated and follow any post-session recommendations from your healthcare professional. Your preferred settings and treatment response may be documented to help guide future sessions. If you experience unusual or concerning symptoms after treatment, contact our office or seek appropriate medical care.

Frequency

There is no one-size-fits-all answer.

The appropriate frequency depends on your individual goals, health history, response to treatment, and how Flowpresso fits into your overall wellness plan. Some people use Flowpresso periodically for general relaxation or recovery. Others choose a more consistent schedule as part of an ongoing wellness routine.

Your provider can recommend an appropriate starting frequency and reassess your response over time.

Consistency matters more than a magic number.

Myths & facts

Let's Separate the Myths From What We Know.

Myth

"It's just another wellness gimmick with no real research."

Reality

The individual modalities used by Flowpresso have established research and applications in healthcare and therapeutic settings. Pneumatic compression has been widely used in rehabilitation and other clinical applications. Heat therapy has been studied for applications involving circulation, relaxation, and recovery. Deep touch pressure has been studied in relation to sensory processing and calming responses.

The combined use of these modalities in Flowpresso is newer, and research specifically examining the combined approach continues to develop. We believe in being transparent about what is established and what is still emerging.

Myth

"How can lying still in a suit actually do anything therapeutic?"

Reality

The passive nature of Flowpresso is part of the experience. You are not exercising or actively participating in the therapy. Instead, you rest while the system provides rhythmic compression, gentle heat, and deep pressure.

This creates a calming sensory experience designed to support relaxation and nervous system regulation. Using passive sensory input to encourage relaxation has parallels in practices such as weighted blankets, restorative yoga, and float therapy.

What you may have heard The reality
"It's just a massage."
Flowpresso is a therapeutic system combining sequential compression, heat, and deep pressure.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be sore after a session?

Soreness is not the intended experience of Flowpresso. Many people find the session relaxing and comfortable.

Everyone responds differently, however, and you may notice temporary changes in how your body feels after a session. If you experience significant or unusual discomfort, contact your provider.

How much water should I drink after a session?

Staying adequately hydrated is important. Drink water after your session and follow any individualized hydration recommendations provided by your healthcare professional.

How soon will I notice a difference?

Everyone responds differently. Some people describe feeling relaxed after their first session, while others choose to incorporate Flowpresso into an ongoing recovery or wellness routine.

Your provider can help you evaluate your response over time rather than relying on a single session.

Can Flowpresso help with sleep?

Flowpresso is designed to create a calming, relaxing experience and may be a supportive addition to a bedtime or wellness routine for individuals who have difficulty winding down.

It is not a treatment for insomnia or a replacement for medical evaluation when sleep problems are persistent.

Is Flowpresso the same as lymphatic drainage therapy?

No. Flowpresso uses sequential pneumatic compression as one component of a broader full-body therapeutic experience.

It is not the same as hands-on manual lymphatic drainage performed by a trained physical therapist or certified lymphedema therapist.

Can I use Flowpresso if I have lymphedema?

Flowpresso is not appropriate for everyone with a lymphatic condition. If you have diagnosed lymphedema, lipedema, a history of lymph node removal, or another lymphatic condition, additional screening and potentially specialized evaluation may be necessary before treatment.

Can Flowpresso replace physical therapy?

No. Flowpresso does not replace physical therapy, manual lymphatic therapy, medical treatment, or other specialized care when those services are indicated.

How often should I have a Flowpresso session?

Your provider will help determine an appropriate frequency based on your goals, health history, and response to treatment. There is no universal schedule that is right for everyone.

Safety first

Flowpresso Is Not Appropriate for Everyone.

Because the system combines compression and heat, certain medical conditions may make treatment inappropriate or require additional medical evaluation beforehand. Flowpresso should not be used in individuals with certain conditions, including:

  • Certain forms of congestive heart failure or cardiac insufficiency
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
  • A history of pulmonary embolism
  • Certain arterial or venous occlusive conditions
  • Thrombophlebitis or acute inflammatory vein conditions
  • Pulmonary edema
  • Severe arteriosclerosis
  • Significant peripheral circulation problems
  • Acute inflammatory skin conditions or active infections
  • Certain cancers or cancer metastasis affecting the treatment area
  • Other conditions for which compression or heat may be inappropriate

Additional precautions may apply for individuals with conditions affecting blood pressure, circulation, sensation, heat tolerance, or skin integrity.

If you have a significant medical condition, are recovering from a procedure, have a history of cancer treatment or lymph node removal, or are unsure whether Flowpresso is appropriate for you, please discuss this with our office before scheduling. A licensed healthcare professional will determine whether Flowpresso is appropriate based on your individual health history.

Your safety comes first.

Why Solutions

A Therapeutic Experience,
Not a One-Size-Fits-All Treatment.

At Solutions Functional Medicine, we don't believe in treating everyone the same way. Your health history, goals, current symptoms, and response to treatment all matter.

Screening first

We start with assessment

Your Flowpresso experience begins with screening and assessment, rather than simply getting into the device and turning it on. Your provider will determine whether Flowpresso is appropriate and how it fits into your overall wellness plan.

Ongoing care

We monitor and adjust

We take the time to understand whether Flowpresso is appropriate for you, monitor your response, and make adjustments as needed. When specialized care is appropriate, we refer you to the right healthcare professional.

Every Flowpresso plan starts with a conversation.

Your Investment in Your Wellness

Flowpresso is designed to be incorporated into an ongoing wellness and recovery routine rather than viewed as a one-time solution. Individual sessions and packages are available, and your provider can help you determine an appropriate frequency based on your goals and individual response.

We believe the best care starts with knowing when to treat, when to adjust, and when to refer.
